Technology is essential in our teaching whether we are working with K-12 or university students. In order for teachers to feel comfortable about incorporating technology into their teaching, we need to during their preservice education make sure we expose them to it.
We need to model to our preservice teachers/ therapists the different ways they can have their students demonstrate their knowledge. Just the same way we differentiate the material we need also to differentiate our expected mode of response. One way to do this is to have them experience the different modes themselves.
For the past four years, I have taught a course at Providence College in Language Disorders for their graduate program. Sadly the program is closing. One of the projects that the students need to complete is to create a one-page summary of a particular disability. This year in class I asked them to create a short video using Adobe Spark to demonstrate the different ways that you can have students present their work.
Here are their presentations:
DYSLEXIA
APRAXIA
STUTTERING
TONGUE THRUST
Adobe Sparks is a free program. Think about using it with your students!
